Thirty liberated cities: The truth about the Iraqi resistance Proletarian recently interviewed a Europe-based spokesperson for the Iraqi Patriotic Alliance (IPA), part of the national liberation movement in Iraq. The information we received, and which forms the basis of this article, has only confirmed what the CPGB-ML has always insisted, which is that the resistance is much stronger, better organised and more unified than the imperialists would have us believe.
Iraqi resistance statement – video and text On 10 December 2004, a video message was released onto the internet by an Iraqi resistance group. Despite being issued in the name of the Islamic Jihad Army of Iraq, the content of the video – its rhetoric and imagery – have led experts to conclude that the video was actually made by secular resistance forces who may have sold it on in order to raise funds. The analysis contained within the message reveals an extremely high level of political consciousness and reinforces the information we have printed elsewhere in this issue on the state of the Iraqi liberation movement.
The Indian Ocean tsunami: a natural disaster? Wall-to-wall coverage of the Indian Ocean tsunami has been strangely silent over the role of imperialism in leaving so many people vulnerable to the devastation wrought by natural forces. Conscientious objector: ‘On behalf of those who are still quiet’ On 21 May 2004, 28-year-old Sgt Camilo Mejia was sentenced to one year in prison for refusing to return to fight in Iraq. Camilo spent six months in combat in Iraq, then returned for a two-week furlough to the US. There he reflected on what he had seen, including the abuse of prisoners and the killing of civilians. In March 2004 he turned himself in to the US military and filed an application for conscientious objector status. The following statement was issued by Camilo on discovering he had been prese
Israeli land grab The latest attempts by zionism to make any future Palestinian state a practical impossibility are as doomed to failure as their former attempts to bury the resistance altogether.
Palestine election: Abbas stands firm The new Palestinian president is refusing to give in to Israeli bullying and, despite the zionists’ best efforts, the PLO remains united in its aims.
Israeli banks hush up holocaust cash scandal Zionism has long exploited the jewish holocaust for its own ends. It now transpires that Israel’s banks have been profiting from the accounts of holocaust victims.
Congo: the struggle continues Peace talks and elections seem to signal a respite in the war-torn DRC, but as the fighting continues in the mineral-rich eastern region, it is clear that the Congolese people’s struggle against imperialist interference is far from over.
Culture: False consciousness needs false controversies What do Birmingham Rep and the BBC have in common? Both court false controversies as a way of distracting from the vital role they play in censorship of the arts in Britain.
Letter: Defend Zimbabwe The following email was sent to the Troops Out Movement by a member after receiving an advertisement for a meeting to defend ‘refugees from the human rights crisis in Zimbabwe’, ie, supporters of the imperialist-funded MDC who may be repatriated to Zimbabwe.
Letter: Support the Iraqi national resistance! The following was written by a party member to The Guardian in response to an obituary for IFTU secretary Hadi Saleh.
