CPGB-ML holds successful congress

On 5 June, our party held its fifth congress. Following sometimes heated but always comradely, and wide-ranging debates, resolutions were passed that laid out our tasks over the next two years.

What should be our tactics in a period of raging economic crisis, which is biting ever deeper into people’s living standards and laying waste to jobs, pay, pensions, homes and public services? What should be our attitude to those fighting British and US imperialist domination abroad?

Our party’s position on the need for socialist revolution and the role of a vanguard party in helping to organise for that was confirmed, as was our commitment to supporting all those abroad who are struggling to fight the same class enemy that we face here at home.

Motions on correct tactics, on the class composition of British society, on the role of the Labour party and the unions, on council housing, on the Gaza protestors and Joe Glenton, and on the effect of the world economic crisis can all be read online at cpgb-ml.org/proletarian.

Also online are motions outlining our position on the current situation in Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Iran, Cuba, Latin America, Korea, China and Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, following the congress, our central committee received a message of congratulations from the International Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) in Pyongyang. The following are excerpts:

Letter from Korea

The International Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea received with pleasure the news that the fifth Congress of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) was held successfully.

We warmly congratulate the members of the leadership of your party, including chairman Harpal Brar, who were elected once again to assume their responsibilities among the unanimous support and expectations of the entire membership.

The fact that your party adopted at the congress the resolution supporting the righteous cause of our party and people is a big encouragement to our party and people, who are struggling for the building of a great powerful socialist nation and the independent reunification of the country.

We feel proud of having a revolutionary party like yours in west Europe, which struggles for the progress of the socialist cause and the interest of the working masses.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you great success in your work of carrying out the resolutions of the party congress, with the conviction that the good relations of friendship and cooperation between our two parties will be further strengthened in the future, in the common struggle for socialism against imperialists.
