Former Greek communist leader says CIA-run Ukraine is fighting a ‘just war’

With friends like these, who needs enemies? The sooner the working class rids itself of such ‘leadership’, the better.

A former leader of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has justified the war fought by Ukrainian fascism, backed by Nato, in its proxy war against Russia, as being a “just war waged by the people”.

In fact, the Banderite fascists hijacked the Ukrainian state in the 2014 Euromaidan coup – they have no legitimacy, and Ukraine has no remaining sovereignty to defend. If the Ukrainian people wish to regain their sovereignty, it is not Russia, but the USA they will have to fight.

The ultra-nationalists have wrecked their country, facilitating the wholesale looting of its wealth by imperialist corporations and leaving it in a sorry state as compared with the days of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which had a mighty industrial and technological base, a proud and pluralistic proletarian culture, and a thriving population of 55 million people.

The country is now reduced to a semicolonial backwater with a population of just 18 million.

These CIA agents are waging an illegal, brutal, inhuman and unjust proxy war of aggression against Russia, on behalf of monopoly capital. It is, moreover, a civil war of ethnic cleansing waged on the grounds of ‘racial supremacy’ over “the Russian orcs”.

Even EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has explicitly stated that the Ukrainian state “would collapse immediately without EU and Nato support”.

It is interesting to note that as part of their infamous ‘pyramid theory’ of imperialism, the KKE’s leaders have in other documents denied that there is any longer such a thing as the “so-called national question”. Yet here is a former general secretary declaring that there is such a thing as a just war of national liberation, and that CIA-run Ukraine is the party that is fighting it!

Real anti-imperialists, of course, take precisely the opposite view: that it is Russia and the people of the Donbass who are engaged in a just war of delf-defence and national liberation against the proxy forces of aggressive imperialism.

This video is an extract from a live stream of the KKE’s regional committee event on the island of Corfu, on 22 March 2022. The speaker is Aleka Papariga, who served as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece from 1991 to 2013.

Ms Papariga was leader of the KKE parliamentary group until 2015 and a member of the Greek parliament until 22 April 2023.

If these are the self-proclaimed ‘leaders’ of the international communist movement, it is little wonder we have seen the decline and collapse of Marxist leadership of the proletarian struggle. This failure of ‘official’ Marxism to rise to the urgent tasks of the day is precisely the reason that the World Anti-imperialist Platform was formed last year in Paris.
